A General History of the World: The World after 1500

The Battle of Mesovo became a model of victory for the Greeks. The Greeks often took advantage of the inconvenience of the Italians' heavy armored divisions in the Epirus Mountains to seize the high ground, from which they cut off and surrounded the enemy below. By the middle of November they had driven the Italians out of the border. Back to Albania. In the next few weeks, they captured the large Albanian cities of Korca, Adilokastron, and the port of Ada. For a moment, it seemed that Mussolini had to endure the pain of Dunkirk's retreat in the Adriatic Sea. At this point, Mussolini's Axis allies intervened and rescued him from today's embarrassing predicament. Hitler did not do this out of a feeling of loyalty to his partner; in fact, he was furious that the war had extended to the Balkans. But he could not stand by and watch the clumsy actions of the Italians, not least because the British were sending air units to Greece. In addition, on 25 November 1940, Molotov demanded that Germany recognize the primacy of the Soviet Union in Bulgaria, the Bosporus and the Dardanelles. Hitler made no reply; instead, in December, he issued instructions for the implementation of the Marita and Barbarossa plans — instructions that would prove fateful for the world at large. The Marita operational plan calls for "the occupation of the coastal areas of the northern Aegean Sea via Bulgaria,Stainless steel foundry, if necessary …" Occupy the entire Greek mainland. Operation Barbarossa stated that "the German army must prepare to conquer the Soviet Union through a swift campaign that could be carried out even before the end of the war against Britain." Preparations should be completed by May 15, 1941. In preparation for Marita's battle plan, Hitler forced Bulgaria to allow German troops stationed on Romanian territory to cross the Danube and enter the country. When these forces appeared in Bulgaria in January 1941, Churchill went toe-to-toe and sent troops to Greece, although in doing so he blunted General Wavell's offensive in North Africa at the time. In the end, alloy die casting, the Yugoslav government was forced by the force of the ultimatum to accept the treaty of joining the Axis (25 March). However, because the surrender treaty was so unpopular, the Yugoslav government was overthrown by a military coup the next night. Enthusiastic crowds marched through the streets of Belgrade, chanting "War rather than treaty". Less than two weeks later, on April 6, the war really came. As in Poland and France, the Panzer divisions and air forces of Nazi Germany advanced with a vengeance. The mountainous terrain of the Balkans was not as effective an obstacle as one might have hoped, and the British army and air force were too weak to hold off the tide of German troops. By April 13, the Germans had entered Belgrade, and ten days later the British withdrew their troops from southern Greece to Crete. The Germans then launched an airborne assault on Crete. The British were surprised. They did not expect an air attack from the Greek mainland, CNC machining parts ,Magnetic Drain Plug, 180 miles north of Crete. Although the Germans suffered heavy losses, they finally gained full control of the island by early June. With the possibility of success every time, with the prospect of occupying the whole Middle East, Hitler now had an opportunity in the Mediterranean that he could have taken advantage of. In addition to the victories in the Balkans, his army, under the able and energetic General Erwin Rommel, won an equally impressive victory in North Africa. Between December 1940 and August 1941, Wavell drove the Italians back from the Egyptian border to Tripolitania, winning the initial victory in North Africa. But after that, the British army was immediately weakened by the withdrawal of some troops to participate in the Greek campaign. At the same time, the Germans rushed reinforcements to North Africa in support of their Italian allies. British intelligence underestimated the strength of these reinforcements, so when Rommel attacked on March 31, 1941, he was able to break through. Within a month, he had captured Benghazi, Bardiya, and the entire region of Cyrenaica. Victory in the Balkans and North Africa provided Hitler with the opportunity to launch a massive pincer attack on Suez through Libya and Egypt on the one hand and Turkey and Syria on the other. But the Fuehrer passed up the opportunity because, as one German diplomat put it, Hitler was on "an anti-Soviet one-way street of ideas.". Instead of taking advantage of the situation in the Middle East, he moved his divisions from the Balkans to the east. On June 22, 1941, the powerful German army finally crossed the Soviet border, five weeks later than scheduled because of the Balkan Campaign. II. The global phase of the war Invasion of the Soviet Union In August 1939, Stalin signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler for a variety of reasons, including a deep mistrust of Western leaders and a desire to gain time to build up his army and industry. He also predicted that sooner or later Germany and the Western powers would come into conflict and engage in a war of attrition, while the Soviet Union could avoid the war at will because of the non-aggression treaty and intervene when the war was in its favor. If war breaks out, "he told his comrades," there is no way we are going to stand still. We will have to go to war, but we must be the last to go to war. Our purpose in entering the war is to put a decisive weight on the scale, which will tilt the scale. The strategy was shrewd, but it brought the Soviet Union down on its own feet and nearly destroyed the country. It was based on the assumption that the German and Western armies were evenly matched and would kill each other, making the Soviet Red Army the dominant force on the continent. In fact, titanium machining parts, on the contrary, the German army conquered all its opponents without any effort, making Germany the master of the European continent and leaving the Soviet Union isolated and in danger. autoparts-dx.com
